The Town of Brookhaven has declared April 27, 2023 as Nikhil Palekar, MD Day to honor Dr. Palekar's dedicated career to improving the lives of those affected by Alzheimer's disease and related disorders, and significant contributions to the field of geriatric psychiatry and neuroscience research. Under Dr. Palekar's leadership, the Stony Brook Center of Excellence for Alzheimer’s Disease, part of Stony Brook Neurosciences Institute, and the only one serving Nassau and Suffolk counties continues to deliver exceptional care to patients, education to health care professionals and the community, support to caregivers, and opportunities to participate in cutting-edge clinical trials and research studies.
